Andreas Suika, lead game designer for The Long Journey Home, explains the idea behind the game: Being lost and alone is a fear we can all appreciate. Now, imagine being on the other side of the universe, alone, low on resources, never knowing what awaits after the next jump. The Long Journey Home taps into that primal longing for home, while also providing a colourful, comic universe that players will have a blast exploring and returning to.”

If you’re unfamiliar with The Long Journey Home, these are a few of the things it has to offer…

Build your crew from 4 out of 10 characters, including astronauts and expert pilots, each with their own unique skills and personalities, that may give you edge you need to survive alien worlds, shipwrecks and mysterious ancient tombs.

Spaceship flying with actual planetary gravity affecting your flight. Master spaceflight, and those attacking alien craft won’t be blindsiding your craft.

There are fifteen alien races, eight different empires plus a load of smaller civilisations scattered throughout the game. Will you learn how to befriend them or will your actions simply anger them. There’s over two novels worth of dialogue, that flesh-out these memorable characters.

Every action could have consequences. Do you land on that alien planet to gather much-needed resources, risking your crew’s life to do so? Consider the risks of every decision. Andreas Suika notes that “’The Long Journey Home’ is about making the right decisions. When you alone are in space, there is no room for wasteful choices. It’s important to remember: always think twice and once you’ve made a decision, be ready to deal with the consequences.”

Most of the game is procedurally generated, but everything ties in with the lore of the game and of the species. For example, conversations may differ but the alien reactions and thoughts are the same. This means that every game can be very different from the last.

New story mode, included off the back of player feedback. The Long Journey Home story mode, allows players to experience the various elements of the game, the aliens, questing, and exploration of the galaxy, while having a slightly easier time in the way of survival.
