Stardew Valley Update – Multiplayer, New Events And More

The much loved farming game Stardew Valley is getting an update. Not only will it feature new things for the single player game, but it is looking promising for multiplayer too. A while ago, Chucklefish announced that it would be adding a cooperative multiplayer version of the game. However, they pushed back its release until this year. And, now it finally looks like we might actually be getting it.

After recent Twitter activity from the developer Eric Barone, he shared a rather fantastic picture of him playing with his friends. To which he added:

4-player Stardew Valley LAN party at my house… it’s really fun. It still needs some work, but the underlying network code is solid. Being in the same room and yelling at each other about what to do next, or if anyone has any stone, is great fun. Can’t wait to share this

Late last year, Eric promised a, somewhat small, heap of new things that would be added to the game. In his recent Twitter posts he stated that he had finished these updates so he could focus on the multiplayer aspect. Here are some of the things that we can expect to see in the near future:

*A new “town event” in winter
*New type of collection that you can start in your first winter
*Signs (can display any item on them)
*More outdoor decorations (some change w/ season)
*More NPC “events”
*A way to re-spec professions

Although not the most exciting of updates that is just the start. More NPC “events” sounds very interesting but what they actually entails we will have to wait and see.

Not only will Stardew Valley be getting a LAN multiplayer but it looks like online friends can play too. This is perhaps one of the biggest changes to the game and will likely breathe some new life into the experience. If it is well implemented, it will be exciting to see just what you will be able to achieve between friends. For now, we will just have to wait and see.
