Extras – Alone in the Dark

In order to get the full story of Alone in the Dark, you will need to do multiple playthroughs. Luckily, in addition to changing the difficulty to change things up, there are a few cosmetic changes you can make to the game as well via the Extras menu! Let’s go over all the things that you can change within it.

Extras

The Extras menu is one of the options you can find when starting the game (and can also be found in the pause menu mid-game). Within it, there are 1–3 options you will have, depending on which version of the game you bought:

  • Character Skins
  • Vintage Horror Filters (Deluxe Edition)
  • Director’s Commentary (Deluxe Edition)

The characters skins are the only option you will have if you bought the base version of the game. This will give you the option to swap Edwards and Emily’s models for that of their counterparts from the original 1992 game! Keep in mind that the character skin will apply to both characters, meaning that you cannot change the appearance of only Edward or Emily.

If you bought the Collector’s Edition, you have a couple more options. The first is the Vintage Horror Filters. This option will put a filtered lens on the entire game (besides the menus), giving the game a different feel visually. There are 4 options that you can choose from:

  • 8-bit
  • Letterbox
  • ClassicNoir
  • Sepia

Finally, there is the option to turn on the Director’s Commentary. This neat option will add new objects throughout the game that look like a microphone that you can interact with, and these new interactions will give you some insight into the creation and reasoning behind the various items you find throughout the game.

All of the options in the Extras menu can be changed at any time, meaning you can make these changes in the middle of a playthrough if you want. If you want to spice up your game with some new visuals or insight, it’s worth checking these options out!

I'm a huge gamer who especially loves the Final Fantasy series. I will play just about any game, especially if it has anything resembling a Dragoon.
