Forgotten Relics Update Brings More Hell to The Textorcist

For all you finger-tapping demon exorcists out there, bravely using the power of your typing and spelling to vanquish the hellish demons plaguing our world, The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia has received a new update. The update has brought in new content in the form of Trinkets and a couple of new game modes.

Before we get into the update, it’s worth showing a brief glimpse of all the positive rating that The Textorcist has been getting.

  • Steam: “Very positive” (116 reviews)
  • Metacritic: 78
  • GameRankings: 80.71%
  • OpenCritic Rating: “Strong”
  • Destructoid: “super creative”

Once you’ve played through the game, you’ll unlock the new Boss Rush mode, so named because it has you fighting each boss one after the other inside a new arena. It also has its own leaderboard and trinkets.

That’s right, there are over 30 trinkets that you can earn in the Story Mode, with each trinket either providing a bonus and lowering the score, or a malus and increasing it.  Each boss has the ability to drop up to three trinkets depending on how well you do in that boss fight. Defeat the boss to get the tier 1 trinket. Don’t lose any hearts to get the tier 2 one, and if you manage to defeat the boss without a single typing mistake then the tier 3 is all yours.

You start of without any slots but simply by playing through the story you gain more slots up to a maximum of five. Trinkets can be equipped at the wardrobe, and have the following rules. Bonus trinkets cannot take your score percentage below 0%, Only one action trinket can be equipped at any time, and finally the monocle (the trinket used to access hardcore mode) must be equipped alone.

You’re given the Monocle once you’ve finished the game, and continued after watching the cutscene. Equip this and you’re given to Hardcore Boss mode.

How is Hardcore Boss mode different from regular Boss Mode?

  • all the Boss moves are randomized
  • No down-time between bosses
  • Spells are shuffled
  • You only have one life

If you want to try your hand at some demon-exorcising typing, head over to the official The Textorcist Steam Page and give the new Forgotten Relics update a whirl.
