Rage 2 Set for Spring 2019 Release and Official Gameplay Reveal

Bethesda isn’t waiting around until E3 to make a huge reveal as May 14th 2018 seen the announcement of a sequel to id Software’s Rage with a gameplay trailer following a day later. Since the release of Rage in 2011; there have been a lot of technical innovations at both id Software with Doom and Bethesda’s further studios such as Machine Games’ Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and that certainly shows in Rage 2’s gameplay trailer.

The trailer essentially showcases the insanity of a world that was hit by an asteroid, causing civilization to fracture into tribes and territories without anyone or anything providing any boundaries. The story is told from the eyes of the last Ranger of Vineland named Walker as he attempts to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.

Even within less than 2 minutes; it is clear to see that Rage 2 has greater enemy variation between different tribes, mechs and gigantic monsters accompanied by a wide arsenal of weaponry and abilities with what looks to be vehicular combat from a third-person perspective. To sum it up, everything looks really impressive as though no expense has been spared in making a worthy sequel to the underrated first-person shooter Rage.

Some people may be under the impression that Rage is not a big enough game to warrant a sequel, but a song written many moons ago can be polished, brought up-to-date and released at any time; Rage 2 is a perfect example of such an analogy. Given the combination of Avalanche Studios’s proven quality from open-world blockbusters Just Cause and Mad Max in harmony with id Software’s first-person shooter experience; Rage 2 looks set to be an early contender for 2019’s Game of the Year.

Rage 2 is set to release in Spring 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC, although at the time of writing; there is no confirmation of a release on Nintendo Switch or any virtual reality platforms. However, it has officially been stated that more will be revealed about Rage 2 at Bethesda’s E3 2018 press conference on June 10th 2018 at 6.30pm PT.
