PlayStation Experience 2017 Preview

PlayStation Experience 2017 is a strange one really as it is tough to determine any expectations for new game announcements based upon PlayStation’s statements about the event. There is a rather oddly much muted show titled PlayStation Presents taking place on Friday, December 8th 2017 at 8pm until 9.30pm in the US and 4am until 5.30am UK time on early Saturday morning. There are supposed to be announcements referred to as “Stocking stuffers” with an acknowledgement that the biggest reveals of 2017 have already occurred during E3 and Paris Games Week and with no mention of the platforms that will receive any attention, therefore there seems to be more of an emphasis on candid discussions between developers.

There are numerous panels which appear to be the highlight of PlayStation Experience 2017. The panels kick off with a PlayStation VR Game Panel on Saturday, December 9th 2017 at 11am in the US or 7pm in the UK in which two unnamed legends are unveiling a new PlayStation VR game. It will certainly be interesting to see who is involved in developing the PlayStation VR game and what genre of game it is.

Media Molecule will finally be showcasing their progression on their long in-development new IP titled Dreams. Given the anticipation and lack of news surrounding Dreams; this will be another intriguing panel which is scheduled for 12.30pm in the US or 8.30pm in the UK on Saturday, December 9th 2017.

From 2pm in the US or 10pm in the UK on Saturday, December 9th 2017, IGN will rank their top 10 greatest PlayStation games of all time which will be interesting one for all PlayStation gamers.

Sucker Punch’s panel will showcase their progression from concept art stages to revealing Ghost of Tsushima at 3.30pm in the US or 11.30pm in the UK on Saturday, December 9th 2017. Hopefully we will get a surprise look at gameplay footage, but there is no confirmation of that in advance of the panel.

The main draw from the panels will no doubt be an Uncharted 10th anniversary celebration which takes place on Saturday, December 9th 2017 at 5pm in the US and 1am in the UK featuring Nolan North, Emily Rose, Richard McGonagle, Claudia Black, Laura Bailey, Troy Baker, Graham McTavish and Robin-Atkin Downes with Greg Miller presenting.

On Saturday, December 9th 2017 at 6.30pm in the US or 2am in the UK; The Last of Us: Part II panel will reveal the cast and provide an insight into casting, performance capture and more besides.

An official European schedule and an official US schedule is available from the respective links detailing Friday night through until Sunday’s PlayStation Experience 2017 events. You can watch PlayStation Experience 2017’s PlayStation Presents and panels through official live streams available via PlayStation Live, Twitch, YouTube and Facebook.

Jason plays all genres of games and enjoys all different kinds of experiences that the games industry has to offer. Jason's favourite PlayStation exclusive franchises throughout various eras include: Crash Bandicoot, God of War, Gran Turismo, inFamous, Killzone, Little Big Planet, MotorStorm, Resistance, Spyro the Dragon, Uncharted, Wipeout and various games that never became big name franchises. A special mention goes to Black Rock's superb Split Second: Velocity as it is rather unbelievable that it will never receive a sequel.

Jason now mainly plays modern PlayStation games on home console and portably, but occasionally returns to the old retro classics on the 3DO, PS1 and PS2 such as discovering Cool Spot Goes to Hollywood 20 years after its original release on PS1. Jason is happy to see gaming coming full circle with updates for retro classics such as Alien Breed, Superfrog and Crash Bandicoot.
