Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Kickstarter Smashes Target

This week, a project going through Kickstarter caught my eye. Partly, from the game itself and partly because it’s managed to raise ten times the amount it needed to. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night set out to raise $500 thousand and it’s currently sitting at $5,545,991 as of today. Which makes ‘Bloodstained’ one of the most successful Kickstarter projects to date.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is an upcoming game from the renowned Koji Igarashi, creator of the “Igavania” genre of exploration, action, gothic platformers. Bloodstained looks and feels very much like the Castlevania series, which is no surprise as they consider it its spiritual successor.

So, from what we can see from the trailer we can expect side-scrolling goodness that has you jumping, slashing and killing any monsters who have the misfortune to cross your path and look rather menacing. We also see her kicking Bloodless, a new boss’s ass. Assuming it has one of course.

“You are Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes your skin. You must battle your way through a demon-filled castle summoned by Gebel, your old friend whose body has become more crystal than flesh.”

The release date for Bloodstained is set for first quarter of 2018, and will be available on Steam (PC/Mac/Linux), GOG.com (PC/Mac/Linux), xBox One, Playstation 4, Wii U and PS Vita. There is still a while before release, but I’m sure they’re going to spend this time packing this game with even more goodies. They’ve already added more weapons, maps and skills for Miriam, such as spear throw, resist holy and optimizer.

If you want to pledge to this project then head over to their official Kickstarter page, and see how you can help.
