The Walking Dead a Surprisingly Awesome iPhone Game

the walking dead zombie iphone I am going to come right out and say it, I think that mobile games on the whole are no way near as good as their console and computer counterparts. This is mostly because they are designed for different audiences. The mobile gamer is usually a far more casual player, not wanting to spend either the same amount of time or money on gaming. Which is fair enough, but because of this most I find most mobile games to be shallow and vapid. However with all rules there are exceptions and The Walking Dead on the iPhone breaks all the rules I had for mobile games.

The Secret World MMO Review

The Secret World is a fairly new MMO released by Funcom, the same chaps who gave us Age of Conan but I had resisted the urge to buy it. I am very rarely tempted to buy any new MMO these days, partly because of the unfinished and often bug and lag ridden nature of some MMO’s upon their release, but mostly because I don’t want to spend £40+ on a game which may have all the playability of a sack of old potatoes. But when Origin held a Halloween sale selling The Secret World plus one month’s free game time for £12.50 it was an offer I couldn’t refuse especially when I knew it had both your friends and mine, zombies in it.

Flash Fiction: Dead Desire

flash fiction zombies undead story tale love romanceFor this weeks flash fiction challenge over at Terribleminds.com, we were asked to write our flash fiction based on one of these five titles…

  • The Monkey’s Pageant
  • Dead-Clock’s Revenge
  • The Black Lighthouse
  • Bright Stars Gone To Black
  • Plastic Dreams & Doll Desires

…or any combination of those words without adding any more of our own. Well, seeing as the word dead is in there and I did promise Jo of TheHappyLogophile.com that the next flash fiction I wrote would include zombies I came up with this little tale of undead love.

Oh, technically the zombie should have been in my last flash fiction but I couldn’t think of any way of putting it into this, so I saved it and thought I’d add it to this one instead.

Hope you like it, and I would love to hear your thoughts.

Zombeer, Zombies and Beers: A Comic-Zombie FPS.

zombies logo moonbite games fps sign symbolImagine if you will a world where the only chance you had to survive against the hordes of zombies was drinking large amounts of beer. There is actually something in beer that can protect you against the zombie curse. Imagine being forced into having to choose between being sober or being dead. It doesn’t sound that bad really does it?  This world is the world of Zombeer the game, a weirdly-comic zombie first person shooter.

There’s not much information about it, but there are a few trailers flying around. One video shows a cheerleader being hit with a fish and another showing a zombie bunnygirl dancing provocatively, these trailers are interesting to say the least and do at least give an indication of the type of game Zombeer the game is going to be.

The press release and trailers are below, and please visit their official site and Facebook page as well as following them on Twitter for updates and tasty flesh-eating info.

Flash Fiction: Lycan and the Zombie Cowboy Monkeys of Doom

flash fiction zombie werewolf doom story tale makakIn this week’s flash fiction competition, Chuck Wendig asks, no orders us to go bat-shit crazy with our flash fiction. He wants Pulp fiction and craziness. Now, I’ve never written pulp fiction before but I have more than enough crazy so I’m hoping that It can compensate.

So, what was I going to write about? Werewolves? Zombies? Monkeys? Cowboys? Private detectives? Nah, how about all them?

Hope you like it. If you do, please leave a comment. If not, leave a comment but be nice? :)

Fiction: Dead to the world

zombies death mail bloodToday’s piece of fiction was inspired by a comment made on this post. It was such a nice idea that I thought it was worth a little bit of exploring.

*****

‘This has to be the mother of all hangovers’ thought Edward as he stared at himself in the cracked mirror. A lot of people go out, drink too much and then feel like death in the morning. Very few of those people are actually dead. Though in truth Edward wasn’t dead, he was undead. Read more

‘Prototype’ xBox 360 Game Review

zombie game alex mercerFollowing on from the huge enjoyment I experienced from playing Batman: Arkham Asylum, I delved once again through the xBox 360 Platinum Hits shelf at my local video game score. With yet more sage advice from a mate, I picked up ‘Prototype’, released by Radical Entertainment in 2009, and bought it for the low price of £12.

Once again, both my mate and all the people whose purchase of the game allowed it to become platinum, were bang on the mark.

Dead Island Trailer: Zombies on Holiday

I’ve just caught sight of this beauty. Yep, it looks like another zombie game is about to hit the shelves soon, and the Dead Island trailer is something to behold.

Is this zombie game gonna be any different to the countless others that have preceded it? I doubt it. Though at least the trailer is different and well made; half in reverse, half forwards… it does make sense once you’ve seen it.

Does the gaming industry really need another zombie survival game? I can’t help but think that this one isn’t going to bring anything new to the table. However, I have heard that Dead island is focused more on hand-to-hand or melee combat and not just having to find a rifle and blasting away at any dead thing that shuffles towards you.

The other question would be, do you actually need anything more in a zombie game then loads of zombies and loads of weapons?

It is too soon to tell, but whatever the game may bring the Dead Island trailer at least, is very good.
