Microïds Acquires Rights to Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo

Microïds, Anuman Interactive’s video games publishing label have signed an agreement with Reeder Brand Management for the rights to the name and likeness of the famous portly mystery film Director Alfred Hitchcock and elements of the film Vertigo (famously starring Kim Novak and James Stewart.) On the back of that, Pendulo Studios will be developing a game loosely based on this Hitchcock masterpiece.

So, now Microïds will be able to expand even further on their catalogue of licenses. With Asterix and Obelix, Blacksad, Agatha Christie and Syberia firmly under their belt, the addition of Alfred Hitchcock can only mean good things.

Pendulo Studios, who have previously created the Runaway Saga and the future adaptation of the Blacksad graphic novels are working on a video-game interpretation of the film Vertigo. Just as in the film, the hero of the Vertigo game will likely be forced to deal with both the physical and mental vertigo as well as the obsessions that slowly take hold of him and blur the line between fiction and reality.

Elliot Grassiano, Microïds VP, stated: “Microïds has a long tradition of developing adventure games, and in this case, we’ll be taking one of the all-time classics from the Master of Suspense and merging it with Pendulo Studios’ expertise. We want to provide players with a video game that will become a classic of the genre.”

Felipe Gómez, CEO of Pendulo Studio says “After so many years of blending the language of cinema with that of interactive media, and after a bunch of thriller games in our catalogue, it’s an honour and an exciting challenge to adapt Hitchcock’s masterpiece to a video game. We are working hard to meet the expectations of both players and moviegoers”

So what do think of this news? Are you excited, or do you think Vertigo should only be known as the classic Hitchcock film? Let us know in the comments.
